A Step Back In Time.

This tour is based on the concept of how the local people of Goa led their lives.
Duration: 6.5-7 Hours

We begin  first by visiting a Goan museum called Goa Chitra which  is a tribute by its founder to his ancestors and to their way of life using age-old wisdom passed down through generations. It is an unique collection and display of traditional farming implements and other ancient tools of trade.

We than drive down to the earlier capital city formerly called Chandrapur today known as Chandor. To visit the Mansion of the prominent Indian journalist, writer, politician and anti-Colonial activist from Goa Luís de Menezes Braganza. He was one of the few Goan aristocrats who actively opposed the Portuguese Colonisation of Goa.

We than drive from Chandor to a nearby village called Quepm to visit a Palatial house called  Palácio do Deão which was built in 1787, by a Portuguese noble man Jose Paulo, who was Dean of the Church and the Founder of Quepem town. . It is built in an unusual style of architecture and has an interesting blend of Hindu and Portuguese cultures. The house is situated on a hillock, which faces the Church the Dean built.

It has been restored and opened for the public.

Visitors can enjoy Indo-Portuguese cuisine on the belvedere, overlooking the Kushavati River on prior booking.

We finally than drive to the traditional covered market of Margao where one gets to see the local produce of Goa set up for sale under this covered shade and sniff on the traditional aroma of the local Goan Sausages called chorizo .

The sites included in the tour is very well put together by Mario showing Goa at its best. Mario walked us through the amazing covered Margao market which were narrow maze like aisles where you can shop Spices, dried fish n prawns, authetic goan sausages, jaggery, clothes etc etc. Our next stop was a visit to 17th century Braganza Pereira Portuguese Mansion which is breathtakingly beautiful. The splendour of the interior n the well cared for gardens showed the grandeur of the Portuguese era. Palácio do deãu the home of the Dean which is being restored bit by bit is beautiful in all its simplicity. The garden is extensive. We chose to take a walk after our delicious lunch where the staff were all extremely nice and hospitable. We are so glad that Mario included this site for our tour. The food was prepared with fresh ingredients, some grown on the property. Chitra Museum is a must see. Amazing private collection of Goan History. We ended the tour with Colva beach which Mario incorporated as per our request. Mario is easy going, helpful and patient. We had a stress free tour and enjoyed every minute of it. We would highly recommend Mario as a tour guide.

Mario is just not a local person but an experienced and very professional tour guide that loves Goa and his job.He takes care of you from the moment of booking and not only from the appointment onwards.

Mario thinks of everything even details like refreshing towels and disinfectant for tourists hands. He is flexible for any extra needs and does not take into account extra time. He organises personalised tours with great meticulousness and interprets his work according to the expectations of highly demanding tourists.

He has a good knowledge from a historical and cultural point of view and is undoubtedly the best guide we ever had. We would like to recommend Mario as much as possible because even humanly he is exceptional. Hope to meet him again.

private tour of Goa away from the crowds

Fantastic shore tour travelled Feb 2020 precovid visiting off the beaten track sites including the estate of a Catholic priest where we had a banquet of Goan dishes with vegetarian items made specifically for us. A delightful stop at a museum without any other cruisers to see household and agricultural implements dating as far back as the 1600’s.

We spent time at the Braganca mansion in Chandor, the home of the Spanish emissary to Goa whre we had a private tour conducted by the present owners.

Why go with a crowd on a bus when you can have a fantastic adventure like this?

Thank you David for your kind review and words of encouragement. It was a tour truly away from the maddening crowds of the people from the celebrity cruise ship. Thank you once again for giving me an opportunity to be your tour guide.
